Jan – March 2019 prayer letter

I forgot to post this when I sent them out a few weeks ago.

I pray that this letter finds you all well in this new year. January was a busy month for us. We spent a good part of the month in Illinois where it was quite cold. Please pray for a lady that I spoke with a few times named Allison. She works at a hotel where we stayed. She is having a rough time in her life. I took time to explain the Gospel to her and tell her of the love of Christ. She didn’t get saved that night, but I believe that the Lord is working in her heart.

Masey dealt with a couple of heath issues in late February, early March. She came down with Continue reading “Jan – March 2019 prayer letter”

Praise God – Today marks 16 years that I’ve been saved! I’m so thankful that God didn’t quit dealing with my heart. The first time I remember hearing about the gospel was as a teenager and I rejected it. I decided that I would work to be “good enough” to go to Heaven. God was gracious in that He dealt with my heart again. And again. And again.

Miskolc (pronounced kinda of like MISH-kohlts) is the 4th largest city in Hungary with a population of about 157,000 people. It is located in the north-north-eastern part of Hungary and is the county capital of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county and the regional center of Northern Hungary.

We have taken trips here several times. Thankfully it’s only about an hour and a half drive from Debrecen. Personally I enjoy the train ride though. I can relax and let someone else do the driving for me, even if it might take a little longer. (^_^)

We enjoy touring the Diósgyőri vár (Diósgyőri Castle) they  Continue reading “Miskolc”

The city of Szeged is the third largest city in Hungary. The latest official numbers place the population at just over 161,000 people. We visited this city a few times already. It is a beautiful city that is divided by the Tisza River. We found lots of parks for the kids and plenty of restaurants to enjoy.

Szeged has the University of Szeged – a large and fairly international university (although I think Debrecen University is both larger and has more international students). The university is also the city’s biggest employer.

Pick Szeged is a sausage and paprika factory in the town with a museum. We have been to the museum, which was a nice place to look around. I’ll admit that I wasn’t too excited to go there, but Maryanna was so thrilled. She was about heartbroken when it was closed once and we couldn’t go. She still loves her Pick Szeged hat she bought there.

Religiously they are majority Catholic with 54.5% of the people claiming this. Like many places in Hungary, the second largest belief system is atheist at 21.8% and then unknown/undeclared at 13.1%. I know of only two Baptist Union churches in the town. One is an older one that seems more traditional in their worship, and a newer one that is very contemporary. Interestingly out of all the Baptist Union churches in that county, only those two have full time pastors that I could find. The older man at the older church would travel to some of the other churches in the county and fill in.

I said all that to say that Szeged is a place that very much needs Gospel preaching churches. It’s not the only place though. You can find that need in every city you go to. I can’t say that any town in Hungary has too many Gospel preaching, Bible believing churches. They may have too many churches, but are lacking in the ones that preach the Gospel and stand for the Word of God.

Click here to see several webcam views of different parts of Szeged.

Upcoming cities will be MiskolcNyíregyháza, and some smaller places like HajdúböszörményHajdúszoboszló, and Berettyóújfalu. I don’t have a particular order to the postings. I just picked Szeged at random to start with. But each of these places has plenty of people that need to hear the Word of God. Pray that God would stir hearts to preach the Gospel here and see some strong independent Baptist churches planted. Also, I probably won’t do a post for Debrecen. I have done plenty of posting about that town before.

I hope you all enjoy the picture below! God bless!

Furlough update

We are still alive! I have been meaning to post for a while, but things are normally busy or I’m without internet access. So far furlough has been going well. We are excited about being back in the USA and getting to present the spiritual needs of Hungary to churches. Churches have shown a positive response also. We have seen an increase in support, though we are still needing more.

Our kids are growing like weeds. Eli is catching up to me in height, with the girls closing in on Masey’s size. Eli is somewhere around 5’9″ right now. We are trying to make the most of our America time too. Of course we have had tons of travel, but we are taking time for some fun family times. We have been swimming, fishing, and even had a few first times things like snow tubing, go-karting, and laser tag. We want the kids to have good memories about furlough. (^_^)

I haven’t forgotten about doing some posts about different towns in Hungary. They will be coming soon. It will just be short posts mostly about towns we have been to (and a few we haven’t yet) that will give a few facts. Every town mentioned will be on that has a great need for the Gospel and has no independent Baptist churches.

Finally you can click here to see our updated presentation. I’m almost constantly tweaking it, but I am fairly satisfied with this version.

Thank you for your prayers for our family. God bless!

Almost ready

In the packing mood! ^_^

We are almost ready for furlough. We will soon be moved out of our apartment. We just gave away Elijah’s pet hamster. We have a van reserved in the USA, plane tickets bought, and several AirBNB reservations made. We are eager to see family and friends back in America, but also sad to say “Szia” to Continue reading “Almost ready”

Maryanna’s Birthday

Recently our sweet Maryanna had her birthday. She is such a blessing to our family. She is generally a loving, motherly type. She loves to carry around the younger kids at church and be a little momma to them. She also loves food (esp. Doritos and bean burritos), her family, her friends, and her dolls. She enjoys dressing up and styling hair too!

We are so thankful to God that she has a strong desire to do right, and to lead others into doing right also. We pray that one day she Continue reading “Maryanna’s Birthday”

Merry Christmas 2017

Arnold family Dec 2017

We are encouraged by what has been accomplished this year, and are excited to see what can be done for Christ in this coming year. May we all continually serve the Lord, submit to His will,  and follow Him more and more!

From our family to yours, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Eryn’s birthday

Recently our little Eryn got to celebrate her 10th birthday. We love her very much! She has been our tiny little girl, but she is quickly catching up to the other two kids. She has a unique, kind of odd personality which we love dearly. And she certainly loves to be around her older brother and sister. I hope you enjoy some pictures of our little sweetheart from over the years. ^_^

Eli’s Birthday

Earlier this month Elijah became a teenager. I love my son very much and I’m blessed to see the young man he is becoming. He enjoys manual labor, willingly helps around the house, and has a sense of humor much like mine. I think I can also say that he is far more godly than I was at his age. He has a desire to be a missionary to Thailand one day. Pray that he will continue to follow God’s will for his life.
